A fantastic eye loupe by Schweizer. The housing is aluminum (anodized), it has a biconvex silicate glass lens and an air-circulation hole. The lens is scratch-resistant and produces a very sharp and extremely high contrast image. Schweizer uses a UV absorbent optical crown as used with prescription lenses (refractive index n=1.52).

Schweizer provides a guarantee of ten years from the date of purchase (as shown on receipt) for any defects attributable to material or manufacturer errors. The guarantee does not cover power packs for illuminated magnifying glasses or parts subject to wear and tear (small lamps, batteries, etc.). Damage caused by incorrect use or due to impact is not covered by the guarantee.
Biconvex lenses are also called convexo-convex lenses and are mainly made out of a special quality glass. Different types of biconvex-lenses exist such as the planconvex-lens. The most common biconvex lens is the symmetric-convex lens as used in this magnifier.
The biconvex lens is manufactured with identical convex surfaces each side of the lens. The focal length is equal to the radius of the curvature. Resulting from its perfect symmetry it produce images close to 1 and up to a magnification of 8x. Biconvex lenses have positive focal lengths and form both real and virtual images.
Aberrations such as coma, distortion, and chromatic aberration almost exactly cancel out also due to the symmetry.
